If you have only recently heard of Dermaroller treatment, you might be wondering if it is like other anti-aging procedures or not. Curious, eh? Well, the answer is both yes and no. It can perform similar functions, but using a different process..
Let’s see if this skincare treatment is for you!
Here’s what you should know
-
Dermaroller is micro-needling and CIT
The first thing you need to know is that Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) and micro-needling are the same as Dermaroller. They are different names for the same process. That process is having your skin poked with a bunch of teeny tiny needles.

How Dermaroller treatment procedures actually feel
It’s amazing how the word “needle” can have negative impact on many people. You might be envisioning an incredibly painful process, but don’t worry! It doesn’t actually feel like the needles used in doctors offices to draw blood or give vaccinations. The Dermaroller needles are much, much smaller. Additionally, your technician will numb your skin before they begin. So, you shouldn’t feel much of anything at all.

How the process is similar to other skincare methods
Certain skincare methods, including aesthetic laser equipment, basically hurt skin cells just enough to make the patient’s body do the repairs on its own. Dermaroller works just like that. As the needles damage your cells, your body will send proteins, vitamins, and minerals to fix them. In the process, it will also fix old damage that may have occurred so slowly and subtly that the repair process was not triggered at the time.
For example, let’s say that your skin has been exposed to too many UV rays over the years from tanning or too much time at the beach. Well, that can cause problems to build up so slowly that your body may not try to repair itself, but the micro-needling device does just enough damage all at once that your body’s natural defenses should kick in, and it should start making collagen and other restorative materials.

What makes the procedure more desirable for some patients
Since there are so many great skincare options available, you might be wondering why Dermaroller is more desirable to certain people. The short answer is that some people may simply be better candidates for it and worse candidates for other treatments.
For instance, anything that irritates oil glands is probably not a good treatment for those who have over active oil glands already or often have acne outbreaks. Such treatments include chemical peels and many types of laser treatments, which can heat up the oils and cause burns. Generally speaking, oil glands are larger in those whose skin has a darker pigmentation, but there are some laser procedures that can be done on darker skin tones.
Since micro-needling doesn’t involve hot lasers or chemicals, it doesn’t irritate oil glands as much. For that and other reasons, it can be the best choice for certain people. Of course, it also depends on the level of skin problem you are trying to treat and where on your body that problem is located. So, you will have to do some research and talk to your skincare professional to really narrow things down and get on the right track with your skin treatment.
And now, your turn..
