I was the happiest the first time I heard my baby cry. And look how time flies so fast, he’s now 17 months old! He’s a happy baby who fills the house with giggles. You’ll see him smiling most of the time, but not when he’s hungry! He cries when he wants to be fed, which is common in babies and sometimes point his finger in the direction where we store his bottles and milk. There I’ll know he wants his milk.
At his age, it’s getting easier for me now to understand his simple ways to express what he is feeling and what he wants. He cries when he is hungry, when he gets bored on his playpen or when he wants to be carried, or just when he wants to walk-and-run around the house. When he is sleepy, or when he wants to be changed, he cries.
It’s natural in babies to cry, they all do. But you know how hard it is for parents when their baby cries for hours and doesn’t even respond to their usual comforting methods. It could be a sign that your baby is suffering from digestive discomfort, which we call “colic”. It’s when a healthy baby cries excessively for hours, usually at night, at least 3 days in a week for more than 3 weeks. It’s just really hard and stressful not only for moms, but for the whole house.
I can still remember when it happened to my Baby Cody when he was just around 2 months old. We tried everything that we think might comfort him, but he kept crying as if we’re picking needles on him. I and my husband are so tired, and stressed all through those times, but we don’t just give up trying to comfort our baby. Nothing is more painful than seeing your baby cry like that, right?
